On-site Corporate Health

WHSI recruits physicians and nurses to place on-site with clients who have a history of workplace injuries. The physician is responsible for the following:


  • Reviews employee clinical case/injury immediately upon occurring.
  • Provides a medical opinion to validate employee’s injury claim.
  • Develops treatment plan including treatment, further diagnostic testing, compliance with treatment, and response to treatment.
  • Follow up with patient to ensure appropriate case management and timely return to work.
  • Completion of FAF upon return to normal work duties.
  • Tracking of injuries, modified workers, and time to return to normal work duties.
  • Coordination of cases with onsite disability coordinator.
  • Coordination and management of Independent Medical Evaluations (IME) if deemed necessary after consultation with onsite disability coordinator.
  • Available for management/administrative meetings if required.

Before WHSI:


  • Average of 100 employees on modified work on any given week.
  • Average time an employee was on modified work was 12 weeks.
  • Average direct cost to hire and train a replacement for an employee on modified work was approx. $700 per week.
  • Company had a surcharge with WSIB for several years in excess of $1MM per year prior to Wellpoint’s involvement.
  • Company sustained costs of hiring, training, and administrative work.

Approximately 3 months after WHSI was retained:


  • Average number of employees on modified work went down to approx. 35 in any given month.
  • Average time an employee was on modified work went down to 2.5 weeks.
  • The year after Wellpoint was retained, the client was in a rebate position with WSIB.
