Other Immunizations

Every winter almost one quarter of Canadians are infected with the Influenza (FLU) virus. Thousands become very seriously ill. Thousands more die from Flu related complications. Annual immunization provides safe and effective prevention. Almost anyone can benefit from an annual FLU shot. October & early November are the best times to get your FLU shot.

Almost anyone who wants to improve their chances of having a flu free winter can benefit from immunization with this year's influenza vaccine (please see list of people below who shouldn't be immunized). However, some "high risk" individuals face the possibility of serious or even fatal consequences as a result of this annual epidemic..

Individuals who should not get immunized:

  • Children under 6 months old.
  • Individuals with allergies to eggs (chicken eggs are used in the production of the vaccine).
  • Anyone with an allergy to Neomycin, or Thimerosol (a preservative present in contact lens solutions and the flu vaccine).

Influenza vaccination costs are covered by provincial medical services insurance for "high risk" individuals and anyone over the age of 65. Beginning with the 2004 fall immunization campaign, all children between 6 months and 23 months, as well as family members and caregivers of all children under 24 months will be offered free immunization against the flu.

Wellpoint Health offers the influenza vaccine for only $25 plus GST for those individuals not covered by Health Care.

We carry a limited number of the influenza vaccine so please contact us at 1-403-236-8400 to arrange a flu clinic for your employees in advance.
