Wellpoint's team of Occupational Health professionals will create the Health Surveillance Program your company requires to comply with the various Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

Audiometric Testing

Audiometric testing (hearing tests), checks the hearing of employees working in an area exposed to noise of 85 decibels or higher which required every two years as per the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act - Noise Exposure Regulations. A baseline is established for each employee with a cumulative record kept for easy comparisons.

Pulmonary Function Testing

Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT's) can help diagnose the cause of a symptom; such as shortness of breath and the extent of a disease; such as how far advanced is the condition of a patient with Emphysema.

In this test a patient blows into the testing apparatus as rapidly and as hard as they can for as long as they are able. Two good trials are required for an accurate test. This test measures the airflow and is useful in detecting the presence and severity of such obstructive airways diseases as Asthma.

Employees exposed to silica, coal dust, asbestos, heavy dust and manmade fibers should have health surveillance every 2 years. This includes a health questionnaire, PFT and chest x-rays which will detect early medical conditions associated with the above hazards.

On-Site Testing

Wellpoint Health will place a nurse operated clinic at your workplace to screen, assess and treat your employees at their convenience.

Protocols include:

Screening - Review of health questionnaire, and screens for presence of medical condition. Includes:

• Height (annually)
• Weight (annually)
• Vision (annually)
• Blood Pressure (annually)
• Hearing (annually)
• Urine - Glucose & Proteins
• Lipids (35 - 65 years of age)
• ECG (40 - 65 years of age)
• Occult blood (75 or older)
• CXR (yearly if indicated)
• Mammogram (Women over 50)

Assessment - Review existing medical condition with patient.
Treatment - Referral to a Wellpoint physician for a more detailed examination if necessary.
